Creative Brief:
For this 50th Anniversary release, The Band wanted to re-interpret the artwork, setting it apart with a sophistication and presence befitting a deluxe edition box set. The iconic original painting by Bob Cato is rendered in rich burgundys with its brilliant rainbow visible in the album title, before revealing fully as the cover of the commemorative book. Working directly with legendary photographer Norman Seeff brought a new clarity and fidelity to his original portrait of The Band, which had become muddled over the years by printing limitations and poor reproductions.
